Legislative Update — April 5, 2002 — CCFC Phone 916.446.3042

EDUCATION BOND PACKAGE SENT TO GOVERNOR — The Legislative Conference Committee on the Education Bond reported the conference report out of the Conference Committee on March 20th, just before the spring recess. The following day the Assembly approved the measure by a vote of 71 to 6. The Senate left for recess without voting on the measure. However, yesterday morning the measure squeaked out of the Senate by the barely necessary 27 votes. There were 11 votes in opposition, with 2 not voting.

The provisions of the bill are repeated below from the FAST FAX of March 21st. The bill (AB 16 — Hertzberg) is a historic measure for the community colleges which garner 40% of the higher education allocation. The only open question is the method of repayment of the revenue bond portion for the community colleges (Proposition 98, or not).
