CCFC PAC, CCLC AND KEY CEOs SWING INTO ACTION FOR PROPOSITION 47   With the passage of a AB 16 and the placement of a $13.05 billion public education bond measure on the November 2002 General Election ballot, the CCFC PAC has accelerated its fundraising effort to secure the community college share of the fall campaign for the passage of the bond.  This effort has been heavily supported by the Community College League of California (CCLC) and key CEOs who have given up their vacation time to encourage participation by their colleagues.

Several districts have been early to the party and met their goal for reaching the PAC goal of            $1 million.  This goal is part of CCFC’s effort to sustain fundraising and avoid the crash programs that have typically characterized the historic effort to support statewide bond campaigns.

Despite the revised split of state funding to provide 40% of the higher education portion for community colleges and 30% for each of UC and CSU, the community colleges have been asked to provide 1/3 of the higher education bond campaign funding effort.  Passage of Proposition 47 this November is critical in many ways.  First is the issue of keeping projects moving through the pipeline — failure would impact virtually every district through delayed projects.  Second, the 40% allocation won’t necessarily be part of a future effort should Proposition 47 fail.  Finally, the polls are encouragingly strong at this point, but will need a well funded viable campaign to sustain the momentum.

CCFC has provided a variety of information items on the website (www.caccfc.org), which should be helpful for districts facing issues and questions about the fundraising effort.  Among the items on the website are:

·         A regularly updated list of contributors

·         A description of the limitations and requirements for contributions from Foundations and other Auxiliary Organizations operating as 501(c)(3) tax exempt organizations

·         A contribution form which should be filled out for contributors of $100 or more, and to whom and where contributions should be sent

·         A breakdown of the allocation of funds for higher education for both 2002 and 2004

·         A description of legal activities for districts and employees regarding bond measures

·         A wealth of information regarding support and information about Proposition 47

·         Various links to other websites for information about Proposition 47

Please take time to visit the CCFC website and do your part to help us reach our goal.
