Agenda

What will the future look like for State facilities funding and the community college capital outlay program?  Will there be a bond in 2016?  As the Governor questions the State’s role in funding school facilities, the issue has become one of the top policy discussions for the Legislature and Administration as we begin a new legislative session.  Come to this workshop for inside information on the policy discussions, as well as a prognosis for ongoing State funds and tips to get prepared for new State capital outlay dollars.  Given the importance of local resources for your projects, we’ll also delve into the issue of assessing community support for local bond measures in 2016; local funds will help leverage anticipated new State dollars and maximize your facilities resources.

This workshop will specifically include:

  • An overview of the Governor’s 2015-16 community college budget proposals for facilities and an update on the Legislative review process.
  • Detailed information on the multiple efforts regarding a future facilities funding program, including:
    • The Governor’s policy recommendations for a future State facilities program.
    •  The Legislature’s policy priorities and considerations.
    • The Coalition for Adequate School Housing and California Building Industry Association initiative for a November 2016 school bond, which includes $2 billion for community colleges.
  • How to ensure you are ready and in line for new State funds, including tips on preparing and updating project submittals to the Chancellor’s Office.  Now is the time!
  • Guidance on assessing if your community would support a local bond in 2016.

We are more optimistic than we have been for many years at the prospect of future State facilities funds.  Come join us as we discuss how to be prepared for the next chapter of the State capital outlay program.
