Agenda

2015 has been a significant year for water. In this fourth year of drought, community
colleges received their first major state mandate to reduce water consumption and increase conservation efforts. Community colleges have already undertaken efforts to reduce water use, yet new state and local requirements are adding a layer of complexity to drought response efforts. What will the future hold as we enter the winter season and an anticipated El Niño cycle?

In this workshop, we’ll examine the interplay between state and local water conservation requirements and hear how districts are responding. We’ll be joined by representatives from the Chancellor’s Office and the Division of the State Architect.

Topics will include:

  • The Governor’s Executive Order to reduce statewide water consumption, and
State Water Board and local water agency approaches to implementing the order. Will the Water Board extend its emergency requirements?
  • The Division of the State Architect’s irrigation efficiency regulations for new construction projects and additions, effective December 1 and now proposed
    for permanent adoption.
  • Understanding the Model Water Efficiency Landscape Ordinance, which now applies to schools and community colleges statewide.
  • Results of the Chancellor’s Office water survey and drought response options, including scheduled maintenance projects.
  • Community college district water efficiency case studies.

Come hear how actions at the state level will affect your projects, and explore opportunities and resources for responding to the drought and thoughtful water use, even after the rain returns.
