CCFC is hard at work advocating to fund community college capital outlay projects in the 2018-19 budget, and we need your help!
The Chancellor’s Office recommended Proposition 51 funding for 15 projects, but the Governor’s 2018-19 budget proposal included only five new projects. CCFC is urging the Legislature to include all 15 new projects in the next budget, providing funds for both preliminary plans and working drawings in 2018-19.
Initial meetings with state officials have made one thing very clear: legislators must hear from their constituents to understand the importance of the capital outlay program, and the negative repercussions of further delay. We need your voice to bring context to this effort.
If your district has a project that was proposed for funding by the Chancellor’s Office, please submit a letter to your legislative representatives urging them to fund all 15 projects, including yours. Use the link below for a template letter, and be sure to include specific information about your project(s). You may also amend this letter to describe a project competing for funding in future years.
The first budget hearing to discuss this issue in detail is scheduled for March 21, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. in the Assembly Subcommittee No. 2 on Education Finance. It is important to submit letters prior to that meeting.
We will provide additional opportunities for our members to participate in this advocacy process, even if they do not have a project on the list. In the meantime, we are asking both districts and associate members to contact your legislative representatives and urge them to respect the capital outlay process and fund all 15 projects recommended by the Chancellor’s Office. Describe the impacts that further delay will have on the capital outlay program and the community college system.
