CCFC Update: Proposition 13 Update

We write to you today with news we hoped we would not have to share.  As of Tuesday evening, the yes vote on Proposition 13 was at 45.9%, and the campaign team notified supporters that the state school bond will not meet the 50% threshold to pass this election.

CCFC thanks you for your support and your hard work to move AB 48 through the legislative process, and to inform voters about the importance of Proposition 13.  Facilities play a crucial role in fostering the success of community college students, and the state capital outlay program is an important tool to help build and renovate the instructional and support facilities needed to deliver a robust 21st Century education.

We will work to better understand why voters ultimately chose not to pass Proposition 13, and why a greater percentage of local bonds also appear headed for defeat.  We will coordinate with the Administration, the Legislature, and our partners in the education stakeholder community to evaluate future options to support community college facilities.  We hope you will continue to lend your expertise and ongoing support in these efforts.

Thank you for everything you did to support Proposition 13.  We look forward to continuing the important work to serve our students and communities.
